St. John's United Methodist Church

The youth ministry programs at St. John's are tailored specifically for both Senior High and Mid-High School students. Our goal for all of these programs is to encourage and guide our youth to become faithful diciples of Jesus. Our Ministry and youth are driven to achieve this through commitments to community, discipleship, and outreach. If you are interested in becoming a part of the youth ministry at St. John's, please contact Jarrod Conyers, Director of Youth Ministries. Program Descriptions

UMYF SOLID GROUND:
Solid Ground is the Centerpiece of youth ministry at St. John's for both Senior High and Mid-High School students. This youth group meets in the youth center at St. John's every Sunday night from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM for worship, games, testimonies, fun, fellowship, and a short challenge from the Word of God.

CAMPS AND RETREATS:
Throughout the year, there are several opportunities for youth to get away and shake up the routine. Our ministry of camps and retreats provide our youth with the opportunity to connect with God, self, and others in a safe and supportive Christian envirionment, while enjoying the beauty of nature and being unplugged. Click Here for information about the Sacramento Methodist Assembly camp where we go. Stay tuned for the dates of our next camping trips and retreats.

LOCK-INS:
Once a semester, we host an overnight event where we cram as much games, movies, food, friends, and fun as we possibly can into 11 hours. These are great events to bring your friends who are sketchy about church to. Lock-ins typically run from Friday evening to early the next morning. Students, typically, only need to bring $8.00 to cover the cost of food, a snack to share, and sleeping materials if they wanted to crash. Activities include basketball in the gym, dancing to X-box Kinect, soda and snacks, a giant inflatable obstacle course, many different games and movies offered throughout the night, and a special devotion held in the sanctuary just before Midnight.

MUSIC & MISSIONS TRIP:
Every other year, Solid Ground and the Sonrise Youth Choir embark on a Music and Misison Trip. Life-long memories and friendships are created as the two groups unite to share the gift of music and serve those in need. Past trips have taken us to San Antonio, Washington D.C., New Orleans, and Hancock County, Mississippi. In the Summer of 2012, we are going to Joplin, MO, to help clean up after the deadly tornado that ransacked the town in May, 2011. For more information about this upcoming trip, please visit our Youth Music & Mission Trip 2012 Page.

SUNDAY SCHOOL & CONFIRMATION:
On Sunday morning, St. John's offers age designated Sunday School Classes for Mid-High and Senior High students. The special 8-week Confirmation Class that is open to all ages 7th Grade and up.

STUDENT MINISTRY TEAM:
St. John's strongly believes in student leadership. The Student Ministry Team was designed to encourage students to take ownership of, and direct, the program. The team is lead by student-elected CORE officers who plan and implement program ideas and responsibilities with the youth director.

During Solid Ground on May 20th (2012), we will hold our elections for the Youth Ministry Team's CORE Officers for the next year. Some of the responsibilities for the various positions have been changed from last year. Find out more about these positions and responsibilities by Clicking Here.

Volunteering

It really does take a village...our youth ministry runs on the passion of our parents and volunteers who give their time and share some of their resources to allow ministry to happen. If you would like to help contribute to the development of our young people, and need some guidance as to how, please Click Here for the Parent Power-aid Form to help place you in our ministry. Fill it out and return it to Jarrod when you are done.
