On-Going/Special Events
We Need Your Recipes - Our deadline for recipe submittal for the St. John's cookbook is Sunday, June 3rd. We'd love to receive recipes from each of you, but please don't wait until the last minute! Submit your recipes by e-mail to cookbookforvbs@gmail.com, or drop them in one of the collection boxes located around the church. And, please remember, the proceeds from this project will be used to provide a "free" Vacation Bible School in 2013 for our area children. Thank you!
Working 4 Jesus - A coalition of groups around Albuquerque are currently coordinating a 3-day work projects event, called Working 4 Jesus, for June 14-16. They are identifying work projects all over the city, and the county, for more than 300 people from local Christian groups. Many organizations will benefit from this labor, including Parks & Recreation, Roadrunner Food Bank, The Storehouse, and several churches and schools. On Saturday, June 16th, there will be a Balloon Glow at Fiesta Field for all the workers. There are many fun things planned for this end-of-work celebration, such as climbing walls, ice cream, model planes, and praise bands. This event will have an impact on the whole city, and the glow is a way to say thanks for all the work that will be done. If you would like to help in the planning and implementation of this event, please contact Greg Hallstrom at 400-1776 or ghallstrom@stjohns-abq.org.
Want to Explore the Baltic Region of Europe? - Now is the time to think about joining a group of St. John's people as they embark on a Baltic adventure. Bishop Will Willimon will be leading them as they explore the beautiful area around the Baltic Ocean from September 6th through the 16th. Bishop Willimon is a gifted preacher and prolific writer. He is a professor at Duke Divinity School and the Dean of Duke Chapel. If you would like more information, please contact Greg or Anita Hallstrom at 828-9891, or e-mail anitah1@comcast.net or ghallstrom@stjohns-abq.org.
Basketball? - Is anyone interested in exploring the possibility of restarting the Upward Basketball program here at St. John's? It takes the help of many volunteers to run a successful program. If you are interested in getting together to talk about it, please contact Pastor Craig at the church (883-9717).
Wanted for SMART Camp - Volunteers. Youth and adults with a love for children. Must have a smile and a heart for Jesus. Musical skills a plus, but not necessary. Applicants can call Pauleta Hendrickson at 883-9717, or send an e-mail to newsound@stjohns-abq.org. Seriously...SMART Camp is a fabulous musical opportunity for our children, but it doesn't run without help. Last year, we had a great group of youth and adult volunteers, and the camp would not have been the same without their help. During SMART Camp, the children will rotate through different music, art, and theater activities. They also have snack and lunch while at camp. We need your help with these activities. You can volunteer part-time or full-time, we'll gratefully welcome any time you can spend with us. If you would like to help, but cannot be a volunteer, there are other ways to participate in this wonderful program. We are accepting donations for art supplies and contributions for camp scholarships. We also welcome your prayers for another wonderful year at SMART Camp. Please contact Pauleta Hendrickson for more information.
VBS 2012 - Join us for Sky VBS this summer, where kids will discover that everything is possible with God! Kids will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into yummy treats, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them to trust God, and test out sciency-fun gizmos they can take home and play with all summer long. Each day concludes with Fly Away Finale - a celebration that gets everyone involved in living what they've learned. There will also be an opportunity for the kids at Sky to join an international missions effort to squash malaria in the African country of Mali - we hope to help send more than a million mosquito nets to protect Malian children. Kids ages 3 through graduating 5th graders are welcome to join the fun July 16th - 20th, from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM. Lunch and snacks are included in the registration fee. Call 505-883-9717, or e-mail kids@connectatstjohns.org, for more information. Click Here to download the 2012 VBS & SMART Camp Registration Form.*Thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor, VBS is FREE this summer! A registration form is still required, and space is limited, so please turn your forms in early!
