The Family Spirit Sunday School Class welcomes EVERYONE! We currently meet online on Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. using video conferencing on Zoom.us. We are a small group of friendly adults who like to study, watch educational videos about books, and then discuss questions, pray and socialize.
This Sunday, May 16, 2021, we are starting a new study series. We are studying this newly published book and video series: Words of Life: Jesus and the Promise of the Ten Commandments Today, by Rev. Adam Hamilton. To watch a quick introduction video (65 seconds) of Adam Hamilton speaking about book and video series filmed in Egypt click here.
"In this book of scripture and inspiration, bestselling author Adam Hamilton brings modern eyes to the most famous set of rules in history, recovering the Ten Commandments as more than just a set of onerous prohibitions.
He considers the commandments in their historical context, unpacking the meaning of each commandment in Hebrew, how Jesus reinterpreted them, and how Jews and Christians have understood them over the millennia.
He also explores how the latest research in science and psychology illuminates these commandments, rightly understood as a way of ordering one's life beautifully in the present day.
In a culture marked by workaholism, materialism, and social leads to gratitude, confidence, and peace".
This book provides a rich and callenging learning experience for the individual reader. It also makes a wonderful, multiple week group study with the additional Leader Guide, a DVD of the author speaking while touring the Middle East (a series of multiple, short lessons, to be watched and discussed over a series of weeks). You can preview Session 1 of the video series for free. Click here to Watch the First Session! (This video was filmed while climbing up Mount Sinai, in Egypt, and is 10 minutes and 33 seconds log). To view the rest of the video series for free, please join us in the class to watch online on Sundays. This class is taught by Reb. Doug Sweet and his wife Ann Edenfield Sweet. For more information on this free class, including the zoom video conferencing link, please email Brian A. Eagan.
