POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Congregational Care

MINISTRY OR DEPARTMENT: Senior & Vulnerable Adults

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular Part-Time (10 hrs/week)

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Coordinator of Congregational Care is a member of the pastoral team at St. John’s. They are responsible for visitation, spiritual support, mercy, and care for at-home persons, hospital-bound persons, and other vulnerable persons who need extra support and care. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: M.Div. or other degree in related area preferred.

  • An understanding of the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of adults, especially senior adults. 

  • Emphasis on equipping and inspiring volunteer caregivers. 

  • Organizational and communication skills to coordinate care of individuals through group formation and volunteer coordination. 

  • A committed Christian and lifelong learner who shares a love for the mission of the United Methodist Church with an understanding of its doctrine and polity.

 

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

Administrative/Office

  • Maintain up to date contact lists of congregants who are at-home, in
    hospital/rehab facilities, or others who may need assistance or extra care. 

  • Serve as the main contact-person for care needs, receiving and processing prayer requests, and keeping Senior Pastor and staff informed of urgent care needs. 

 

Coordination of Care 

  • Communicate and coordinate pastoral care needs along with visitation/homebound communion volunteers, Parish Nurse, Staff Counselor, Senior Pastor, and other staff and congregational leaders. 

  • Coordinate and assist leaders of the WeCare, Grief Groups, Memory Café, and other ministries devoted to care of at-home congregants, those in the hospital/rehab, or others needing special care. 

 

Visitation and Ministry 

  • Visit and/contact at-home members periodically and ensure others needing visitation are regularly contacted, either personally or by volunteers. 

  • Lead or assist in funerals as requested. 

 

Other Duties

  • Coordinate with staff members and Senior Pastor on occasional church events, particularly when congregational care is a part of the event’s theme or scope. 

  • Occasionally help as worship assistant. 

  • Attend and support larger church events and ministries. 

  • Maintain Safe Sanctuaries certification and work with Executive Director to ensure all volunteers are Safe Sanctuaries trained. 

 

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor

St. John's reserves the right to amend and change responsibilities to meet business and organizational needs as necessary. A new employee will undergo a three-month and six-month evaluation by the immediate supervisor. Thereafter, an annual evaluation will be conducted.

 

Job Type: Part-time, non-exempt

 

Wage: $25-$30/hour depending on experience.

Work Location: In person and onsite at member’s homes, hospital, or other living facilities. Office and laptop provided.
