Lent Reflections Day 33: Dying

Pastor Tiffany Hollums decided that each day during Lent, she would choose a word to prayerfully reflect upon. A volunteer suggested reading the lectionary texts and then choosing a word that stood out to her from those passages. Tiffany is sharing her Lenten reflections here and hopes to inspire our readers to join in her journey.

Readings:

  • Psalm 31:9-16

  • Job 13:13-19

  • Philippians 1:21-30

Reflections:

I struggle with choosing the word ‘dying’ but it is the point of Lent: Christ will die. We know this, but do we? These 40 days are a journey to the cross. To death. To our God, out of His extravagant love for us, dying.

We must sit with this hard truth for the journey to fully firm us. Christ will die. And hopefully, we will die as well. My prayer is that we die to ourselves. That we let those parts of us that are broken, false, prideful, harmful or bitter die with Christ. It must happen. We simply cannot get to the resurrection without the dying.
